Hasbrouck House in Stone Ridge is a handsome place; the kind of place that feels simultaneously old and new, cozy and sexy all at once. It’s the kind of beautiful place where sprawling rooms are accented by peaked-ceilings and dark wood furnishings, where the beds are dressed with crisp Frette linens and shaggy throw pillows; where oversized bathtubs dominate sleekly tiled bathrooms and old stone fireplaces cast a warm glow.
We stayed at the top of the carriage house, in one of twenty rooms in the recently-revamped 18th century property. Our room — with its lofted bedroom, beamed ceilings, wide-plank floors, and massive bathroom — was bigger than our Brooklyn apartment and about as seductive as it gets. If not for the call of the property’s wooded acres and hidden lake, the nightly bonfires, and the smoked negronis offered in the main building’s bar, we may never have left.

Stone Ridge is a tiny Hamlet in the mid Hudson Valley, about two hours from NYC and not far from the slightly-more bustling communities of New Paltz and Kingston. Hasbrouck House is home to the gorgeous Butterfield restaurant (helmed by Executive Chef Shawn Burnette, formerly of Charleston’s famed Husk Restaurant), but if you want to get off campus, we recommend Lekker for excellent coffee and farm to table breakfasts with a vague Nordic influence. For a candle-lit yet low-key dinner, Spy Social in High Falls is ideal.
